Wrong knife..

If you’re like me, then as strange as it is, you cannot cut cheese with a serrated knife. Maybe it is the texture, maybe the knife leaves such a strange cut mark on the cheese. Whatever the reason, when I cut cheese ( ha ha, very funny ) it must be with a smooth sharp knife. Is this some kind of phobia? Do I seriously have a weird problem?

1.   A trip into the old growth forests of Shawnigan Lake with environmentalist  Torrance Coste. This will be a trip into the past, where we will explore the future of B.C.forests. This will be a photo-documentary.

2.  What is the best way to shave? I will take a look at the art of shaving ones face. This article will explore the future technologies of shaving and look to the simplistic past. This piece will be accompanied by several photos of different shaving methods.

3.   How we Write- This article will look at the evolution of the English language, from Old English to the language texting. This will be accompanied by a concept photo.

4.   Photo-essay. I know this has been done but I would like to take pictures of family generations, Grandparents, parents, children, and grandchildren. Maybe have a brief write-up of where they are and what they are doing.

5.   Tattoos to Train- This will be a photo-essay of an athlete, Curt Knippelberg. He has a brain cyst and can no longer train in the sport he loves–Mixed Martial Arts. He is trying to raise $100,000 to have the cyst operated on, he wants to train and compete again. I will look at where he is now and what his goals for the future are.

5 Story Ideas for Past, Present and Future.

1. Bridging the Gap

– A photo essay of inspirational elders with accompanying stories, the idea being to re-establish youth and elder relationships in our society.

2. The Music Restoration Project

– Exploring the healing potential of music both physically and spiritually by looking to different cultures, both past and present, who use music more intentionally.

– Would include musician interviews and photo of music “at work.”

3. Bicycle Powered Business

– Profiles of businesses that have traded gasoline for good old-fashioned muscle.

– Photography would be primarily environmental portraits.

4. Storytelling

– Reconnecting with an ancient art to inform and inspire adults of today and children of the future.

– Engaging photographs of people enthralled by storytellers and maybe a few portraits of storytellers.

5. Victoria Hip Hop, Where You At?

– A look at Victoria’s hip hop culture whether it is rising or falling. Would include numerous interviews with local artists, some of whom I have been in contact with already, and hopefully some of the pioneers of the Victoria hip hop scene.

– Accompanying portraits.

5 Story Ideas for the Past, Present and Future theme.

1. Feminism – Where it was, where it is now and where it is going. Differences between the views of women from the baby boomer generation and those of their daughters and granddaughters. Have we made our elders proud? Are we taking advantage of our opportunities?

2. The evolution of a monogamous relationship – Honeymoon phase to getting comfortable to spicing it up.

3. Monogamy – How has the idea of monogamy evolved over the last couple of decades? Why are divorces more common now and is monogamy going to be an archaic pastime in the future?

4. Mental Health – Although always an issue, it is a more prominent topic in news lately. How has mental health care changed over the years? What are we doing now to help these people and what does the future of mental health look like?

5. Racism – Racism tends to be an ever-evolving topic. We have come a long way but racism is still a very real issue in society today and we still need to work collectively towards being accepting of peoples differences in the future. How do we do this? Is it even possible?

5 Cumberland, BC Once a thriving mining town, Cumberland now is a sleepy hollow residential community with a handful of businesses.  What does the future hold for Cumberland, what are the plans. Archived photo and downtown Cumberland today.
